Holiday flight cancellations

Over 250 travelers were stranded Christmas Day. Skybus has canceled more flights out of Columbus. Flights to Fort Lauderdale, and Bellingham, Wash., were scrubbed yesterday morning. The problems began on Tuesday when a Skybus plane that flies to multiple cities each day was found to have a mechanical problem. That triggered a chain of Christmas cancellations, sending customers scrambling to make alternative travel arrangements.

Tom wrote in yesterday to tell us about his frustrations with Skybus:

Today, December 26th 2008, I am sitting and waiting, on a
delayed (a 7 hour delay) flight. I tried to find a way to call, contact, or to get
ANY information but to no avail because they (Skybus) don’t provide the customer with any
way to contact except e-mail, which they admittedly don’t answer. This is the
worst airline experience I have had and definitely it is a one-sided company
(without regard for the customer) which should be investigated by the Federal
Trade commission.

Myself and 5 friends were victims of the Skybus xmas cancellations in Columbus. We had a fully paid for 4BR resort condo at Whistler BC waiting for us on the 26th (many thousands of dollars non-refundable). At the very minimum, we are thankful that Skybus informed us via email around 6pm on the 25th that our 6am flight on the 26th had been cancelled, this gave us just enough time to find a REAL airline to fly. Southwest came thru, we all managed to get 6 seats on a 6am flight thru Chicago. Those who were too busy on xmas evening to check email were screwed when they arrived at CMH at 4am on the 26th to find the flight was cancelled. The rush of hundreds of irate people scrambling for other airline tickets was a sad sight.

Bottom line - the old addages, “you get what you pay for” and “it sounds too good to be true” are again correct. Those of you that love Skybus low fares better hurry and use them quick - they wont be in business very long.
