Skybus baggage fees increase

Skybus has raised its baggage fees effective February 19th. The airline charges a flat price per checked bag in addition to your ticket price. Skybus was charging $5 per checked bag. That fee has increased to $12 per bag, an increase of 140%. Passengers who check bags online before arriving at the airport will be able to do so for $10 per bag.

Skybus again cites rising fuel costs as the reason for the increase.

Of course, the real reason is that they’re losing money because their business model is butterfly pie-in-the-sky. I bet they can get Nikki Banks to work their for minimum wage. Oh, wait, Nikki is probably not even making minimum wage after she factors in time on duty.

Anyone for moldy cheese? Only $35! Come on guys! Buy this stuff! Fuel is expensive and I work on commission! What’s wrong with you people!?! Y’all think we can make money on $10 seats!?! Heeellloooo!!

Particularly funny: When Delta and US Air started increasing their baggage fares for the same reason. I hear you don’t have to pay for the peanuts on a Delta flight though. Maybe when they merge with NWA, you’ll be able to buy the Silver and Blue snack boxes then too. I know that makes it all the more worthwhile sitting in that 31″ pitch seat, and I know that even though I paid double what I might get from a US Berlin Air/RyanAir/Germanwings clone, at least I don’t have advertisements on the plane.
